Senior Designer - Interiors Lead
DUTIES + RESPONSIBILITIES
• Oversee the Interiors Department in the design of projects in line with project schedules, budgets and JHL brand guidelines
• Manage, mentor and nurture Designers and Junior Designers
• Be an active listener who can supervise, plan, collaborate, and review work with design team
• Hire new designers as needed
• Monitor team utilization and allocate assignments according to client needs
• Liaise directly with the Architecture & Procurement teams (as needed) to deliver the project
• Develop and maintain positive relationships with clients, external project partners, and internal design team
• Manage scope, budgets and project timelines in order to ensure profitability of projects
• Conduct programming efforts through space planning studies to arrive at final approved plan that meet the goals of clients
• Originate and lead design solutions by generating visual research, floor plans, elevations, details, specifications, material selections, etc. to convey overall design direction for projects through all design phases
• Prepare, deliver, and present graphic presentations that adhere to JHL’s brand standards to clients
• Review document technical requirements, development, and project plans to ensure adherence to defined standards and to facilitate the transfer of knowledge throughout the design team
• Participate in the construction administration of projects - including review of submittals and finish samples, value engineering efforts to maintain design intent, and on-site visits
EDUCATION + EXPERIENCE
• Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design or Architecture from an accredited program
• 10 years of experience in interior design with the majority in high-end residential
• Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite, AutoCAD, SketchUp and MS Office
• Project experience that includes FFE selection and procurement, submission of drawing sets, specifications, technical production and construction administration
KNOWLEDGE + SKILLS
• Ability to manage in a fast-paced environment with multiple deadlines and projects
• Advanced critical thinking to identify strengths, weaknesses, or alternate solutions to a problem
• Skilled in visual research, material sourcing and specification, custom furniture design and furniture sourcing
• Familiarity with Portland design vendors, resources, and showrooms a plus
• Ability to communicate through verbal, written, and graphic communication formats
• Advanced ability to prioritize and evaluate multiple important tasks for your team
• Advanced professional judgment and decision-making processes to determine the most appropriate course of action
• A flexible, positive attitude with the ability to process change calmly and effectively
