Lubitz Residence – Family Room Remodel
Portland, Oregon
This beautiful northwest hills home built in 1930 has spectacular views of Mt. Hood and is closely situated near downtown Portland, Oregon. After 13 years of enjoying this home, the Lubitz family was ready to update the family room to better fit their lifestyle with two teenage boys. JHL design came in for a room overhaul, tearing out an enormously dated hearth & fireplace, as well as replacing floors, walls & ceiling. New lighting, windows, and plaster was added, while being sensitive to maintain a seamlessness between the newly updated living room with the remainder of the house. The charge was to create an easy living space for parents, children, and pets. We combined both masculine with feminine elements with industrial and natural textures, keeping in mind it all had to be extremely low maintenance. All of this took shape around a new ribbon fireplace with a custom steel surround & floating shelves. An outdated but well-made sectional was recovered in gray leather given an updated style by reshaping the arms, base and cushions. We designed an ottoman with concealed storage and added new roman shades to soften the space. Lastly, art work & accessories were put into place to bring the space to life, achieving a room perfect for lounging, visiting, playing video games or sitting at the custom desk for studies in an updated vignette.
